Sci-Fi can impact people very differently. It may inspire an existential fear of machines or a long paper about religion and capitalism (cue high school me). As someone who never previously considered engineering, it enabled me with a singular revelation: you can't write good Sci-Fi without working with science. Here are two early pieces from high school as well as reflections in college on works by Isaac Asimov and Cixin Liu.
